2019

Our Grand Opening took place on September 21st. Hundreds of area residents came to celebrate and tour our new building.

Our  Ceremonial Moving of Children’s Books  on Sept. 8th was a fun community event. The line of kids and adults stretched through the Village as we carried books from the old library to the new library building at 2112 East St.

Crowd gathered at the old library building People walking and carrying books. Line of people at the new library.

The Friends of the Galway Public Library presented the library with a check for $25,000 at the Friends’ Wine Tasting fundraiser at the Cock ’n’ Bull Restaurant on June 11. This donation will go toward landscaping and the purchase of AV equipment for the new building in time for the Grand Opening scheduled for September 21, 2019 from 1:00 – 3:00.  The Friends have donated a total of $40,800 to the library’s New Building Fund, thanks to all in the community who have supported the various Friends’ fundraisers over the years: book sales, Paint & Sip, Taste of Chocolate, Wine Tasting, etc.

Last year the Galway Public Library was awarded the opportunity to work with Leadership Saratoga. Their goal is to help with improving the library and the services we provide to the greater Galway community. The Leadership Saratoga team has been working diligently to learn useful information by meeting with various local organizations and receiving feedback on ways they think the library can improve what we do for the community. One of the ways the team has developed to obtain more information is this survey: 2018_Galway Public Library Survey.

The results of the referendum on the Galway Public Library’s new building project, held on September 23, were 449 no votes and 396 yes votes. The library Board of Trustees thanks all those who have worked so hard with them over the last several years to develop the project, and everyone who voted during the referendum. The library respects the views of those who did not support the referendum. As we move forward, the board will redouble its efforts to solicit input from all members of the community on what they will support. Contact the library at 882-6385 or email gal-director@sals.edu.
