New STEAM Programs being offered in 2020, made available through a SALS 2020 Library Services Seed Challenge Grant.
 
Here are a few of the programs being offered this month:
  • Environmental Club for Kids 
    • Every 2nd Wednesday @ 4:00-5:00 PM
    • Ages 7-18
    • Learn about how we can help preserve our living environment and participate in various means of recycling materials (ways to recycle, build bird houses and feeders, collaborate with other organizations to improve our environment,  and much more)
  • Beginning Coding
    • Ages 10-18
    • Experiment with Turing Tumble Marble Run.  Turing Tumble is a revolutionary new game where players build mechanical computers powered by marbles to solve logic puzzles. It’s fun, addicting, and while you’re at it, you discover how computers work.
  • Teen Tech
    • Ages 10-18
    • Build a device with Legos that employs movement
  • Stay tuned for more programs each month that will include:
  • Makey Makey 
    • Tools and software to use everyday objects to create instruments and play music (piano, drums, guitars, even play Simon)
    • Ages ALL – pre-school to adults
    • Message to Teens and young adults:  This is not all kids’ play. We will be creating a real instrument and game play.
    • Come join us and there is a surprise planned at the end of the program series.
  • Learn to Code
    • Using DASH & DOT Robots learn to program them to do amazing things (play games, draw, create music, maybe even do chores, etc)
    • Ages 5+
    • Activities get more challenging and complex as we go
    • Looking for older students to help mentor the young as the challenges increase!
  • Zooniverse
    • Explore and Participate in real cutting edge research in many fields across sciences, humanities, nature and more.
    • Ages ALL
    • Activities can be individual or group and can be done at the library or at home. You don’t need any specialized background, training, or expertise to participate in any Zooniverse project. Come be a part of the world’s largest and most popular platform for people-powered research.
  • SciStarter
    • Connects people to citizen science projects, citizen scientists, and resources. Real science we can do together.
    • Ages ALL
    • Activities can be individual or group and can be done at the library, home or even when walking your dog.  Great for helping you find what you enjoy doing and great projects for home schooling activities.
  • Lego Challenge
    • Various engineering design challenges that students can build solutions to using LEGO Bricks!
    • Ages 6-12 & 13-18
    • Each month there will be various projects around engineering.  Learn a specific engineering method and then build a structure to represent that engineering topic (build bridges, working equipment, complex structures and more).
